Getting ready to ship out in B-town

11th of Veltom

We head to the Cosmopolitan Inn, a lively establishment, with music and a busy atmosphere.

We get 4 rooms, 5 silvers/day/room includes dinner and breakfast. Kevan is able to get a 10% discount through his prodigious haggling ability.

We decide to go by the name "Bartertown 5", that is until we defeat the bandits and reveal ourselves as the Chosen of Icewing.

Chandos starts to talk to a few windlings in the bar Temayr and his sister Ecata. They traveled in safely for the feast. Etaca likes to dance…

Kromak strikes up with a group of day laborers from Mountain Network. Kild and Pits are orcs, also a few humans and dwarves. Mountain Networks has a branch office in Bartertown we can speak to Creslor about getting a contract with them.

They also mention a Swordmaster Tournament. It is run by Saesak, head of a tailor house. We can find him go out left gate, look for big green house

12th of Veltom

We wake up, get some breakfast consisting of an unidentified meat source, then we head to the Overrated Water. We find Tedred, he looks a little better. He brings us to Lonos, who can tell us about the bandits. He says to not bring anything of significant magical powers. They were hired out as guards of a particular piece of magical significance, its a weapon specifically for fighting horrors. That is what brought on the additional aggression, specifically their nethermancer. He also tells us their is a trail and a bridge at the northern tip of the servos river. They got hit right after they crossed the bridge. Mounted attackers came over the bridge, and bowmen from the trees shot down most of his party. He was hit with a Bone Dance. The weird thing is they did not actually kill anyone.

He was able to tell us that the bandit had some sort of ruin on the forearm.

Large black chest with brass lock, magically sealed, maybe they did not get it open yet.

Lonos is 7th Circle, can use Dispel Magic to counter Ethereal Darkness, as well as magic items. Large orc with a broken knocked him out with a club.

Blort talks to Lonos, picks up some new spells.

After that we meditate hardcore and rank up discipline talents.

Back in the Saddle
Heading from Icewing's Lair to Bartertown

We ask Saheel to drop some knowledge on us about the Servos Jungle. She leads us into a massive library with some super old.

Shows us an adventure log from Rydellisi Lutom, 7th circle sword master, travelled to Servos Jungle 50 years ago. Pretty accurate. He was trying to find a lost kaer, died somewhere along the way. Could retrace his steps to see if the bandits are there.

Bluetoof picks up a gigantic tome on nethermancery. Ospius picks up a book written by a T'skrang called Z'undos of house Ishtarat. He was a potion crafter, has a lot of notes on potions to make from flora and fauna of the Servos.

Bluetoof also meditates for 30 minutes and decides to name his Ice Badger "Lord Brocktree".

The next day we wake up early, Saheel is going to shift us to Bartertown.

Cut to Ago-al in Bartertown. He meets Gamugh. He reveals that Ago-al's brothers may be "dreamlost" since their dreaming was interrupted by meddling humans, who were trying to steal knowledge from their liferock. All obsidimen share in the dreaming and knowledge. The liferock is a gateway physically and spiritual between this world and the dreaming. When dreamlost, your body and consciousness are lost in the dreaming. Ago-al and Gamugh reach out, touch hands, and try to connect. Ago-al can feel Gamugh reaching out, but finds that there is a chasm. Gamugh realizes this, and says Ago-al needs to practice connecting with other obsidimen to overcome the block.

Kromak, Ospius, and Chandos decide to go to the bar of adventurers to check job posting board. We find 3 postings, 1 from Overland, a local trading company called Ridge Co, and a Throalic company called Mountain Networks.

We go to the First Discovery Bar and talk to the owner who confirms there have been some attacks, he points us to a T'skrang bar, the Overrated Water, where we can learn more.

Meanwhile Kevan, Bluetoof and Hakim head to the Bull and Pearl, to meet Madam Maricella. Bluetoof finds a nice troll woman, or two.

At the Overrated Water, we meet Tedred, a beat up dwarf. He got beat up by the bandits. We learn some more about them from him. They had a nethermancer – used darkness spell. Tedred's party had 2 adepts, 6 non-adepts, 3 wagons, don't know what the cargo was. The bandits tend not to kill people. This was an overland deal, arranged by Lonos, Tedred's partner. Lonos is upstairs recovering. He is a nethermancer, they were transporting stuff for Gamugh.

We then talked to the T'skrang bartender, Overland is good for all cities, Ridge Co is a little less scrupulous, Mtn Networks deeper in Throal, they also handle shipments to the inner cities of Throal.

We all head to Overland to take a contract as mercs protecting the shipment. We meet up with Ago-al because he had just met with Gamugh. Gamugh tells us he wants to airlift us to another town, where we will join a caravan as mercenaries and accompany them back to Bartertown. The goal is to find the location of the bandits and defeat them. Can't let anyone on the caravan know we are working for Gamugh or Icewing.

Bluetoof heads to a beast market to look for food for his ice badger. A little girl approaches him looking for help getting back her cat that a greasy dwarf stole. Sounds like a side-quest. Blort messes up the dwarf's stall and frees the kitten. The little girl leads him to an elderly Ork lady Tydeda, Beastmaster of the 9th Circle. She gives him some more info about his Ice Badger.

Kevan finds out some more info about the bandits, sounds like a lot of goods are going through Kratas. They sell all luxury goods, but keep all magical items. Looks like they are building up there army.

Our First Misstep

We fight some bears, Kevan slays their young. Icewing's hunger is satiated.

We meet Donahue, a dwarven liar and eight circle elementalist. He tricks us into telling him about our past and how Icewing granted us powers. He then gave us a mystery box to deliver to Icewing. We debate opening the box but decide not to mess.

We survive an avalanche, then headed back to the Icewing's lair. Icewing chides us for giving away too much info. If we ever see him again we should kill him. He opens the box and finds that it is a chess piece, which is from another dragon. The game is afoot.

Their are bandits attacking trade caravans, which mess with Icewing's biz.  Attacks are happening due west from Bartertown, from the Servos jungle. Going to rest and resupply at Icewing's cave.

Icewing's Adepts
The real journey begins

Icewing has gathered all of us at his lair. We are all still feeling his constant fear effect, and speaking through our minds he asks us if we are willing to accept his offer:

He will imbue our bodies with magic, forcibly creating magical adepts and using his draconian abilities to bypass our lack of preparation. The intention is to test our new magical abilities with a test of worthiness. If we are successful, then we will compete against the champions of the other dragons in a grand tournament. The winners will be chosen to be preserved magically by the council of dragons to enter the next age.

We accepted.

Icewing's Adventure
On becoming adepts

Icewing bellows his offer: Each of the great dragons is preparing for the next cycle and choosing their own champions to be reincarnated after the Horrors ravage the world. The Great Dragons' power combined will preserve the champions' bodies for the next age.

Icewing takes each of us one by one and imbues us with the knowledge of the first circle of adepts:

  • Kromak Darkthread: Liberator
  • Blor Bluetoof: Nethermancer
  • Chanos: Archer
  • Kevan Writ: Troubador
  • Ospius: Wizard
  • Hakam: Horror Stalker

Icewing takes each of us individually and performs the ritual, forcing the first level of magic into our bodies by sheer magical force alone. He performs this ritual six times, and we spend the next two days recovering. Icewing himself is also recovering and requires additional sustenance to regain his health.

His underlings have provided us with basic armor and equipment, and send us on our way to gather meat from the local wildlife. We were instructed to insert a magical orb into the mouths of the defeated animals, and Icewing's underlings would be be able to detect them to gather it.

After failing to track down some ice flyers monkeys, we caught the scent of a few ice badgers. We approached the den carefully, setting up a trap outside to catch them as we flush them out. Kevan snuck inside to scare them out, while Blort cast ethereal darkness on the entrance of the cave to shroud his entrance. Just before we launched an attack, the mother and father attacked from behind. Kevan successfully sneaks into the cave only to see a pack of helpless cubs.

We fight off the mother and father, knocking them both unconscious (but not before taking some minor damage. After they are knocked out, Chandos eagerly kills them in cold blood. Blort grabs one of the cubs, calms it, and stuffs it into a satchel around his waist. He intends to tame him.

The Players Gather
Bartertown

A Great Tournament has been arranged, with contestants from all over Barsaive  competing in trials of strength, combat, wits, artistry, craftery and skullduggery. Being 6 of the biggest bad asses this side of the Aras Sea, we of course won pretty much all of the contests we partook in. Towards the end of the day we were informed that there was one more trial, to come the next day. All of the participants will be arranged into teams, and sent in a race up the mountain. Fortunately, the tournament officials put us on the same team. We meet, shake hands, shoot the breeze a bit, then head down to the local trading post to outfit ourselves the for the coming climb.

Later we head to the the after-party, seemingly hosted by the local nobility. After enjoying a few pints, we try to question one of the family's man servants, but were unable to glean any useful information directly. However, there was definitely something fishy going on with this tournament.

Next day we set out early from the starting gate. After overcoming numerous obstacles we reached the cabin.  Upon approaching the cabin, we saw Sahil, a sexy elven mistress approaching us. She announced we had won the contest, and before we knew it the world was falling out from under our feet – so this is what an astral shift feels like – and just like that we were launched into the journey to the next level of friendship and imagination.
